Success Milestones

  • EPICS began at Purdue University in 1995 with 5 teams and 40 students.
  • Since then, the EPICS Program has achieved several milestones, including:
    • A National EPICS Program was launched in 1999, and there are now 18 institutions that have adopted the EPICS model.
    • There were more than 1,500 students enrolled in EPICS programs across all sites in the 2003-2004 academic year.
    • There are currently over 150 active teams across all EPICS programs.
    • To date, more than 3,500 students have participated in EPICS programs.
    • Habitat for Humanity International became the first national project partner with the signing of a memorandum of understanding in 2002.
    • Microsoft Corporation, National Instruments, and Hewlett-Packard Company are current National EPICS Program sponsors.
    • EPICS founders/directors awarded the "Bernard M. Gordon Prize for Innovation in Engineering and Technology Education" from the National Academy of Engineering in 2005. Click here for more information.
